The Politecnico di Milano is divided into different departments. Each of these coordinates and promotes research activity in its own domain. INDACCO is the Department of design, industrial art, communication and fashion. Its research activities, together with associations, institutions and local bodies, are centred on the promotion of design as a key element and as the strength of the local economic system. Thanks to partnerships and research both within Europe and outside, INDACCO would also like to spread innovative culture encouraged by conception, and to stretch out to other Italian industrial domains. Furthermore, it is collaborating with sixteen other Politecnico departments on multidisciplinary projects, engineering and architecture. The School of design (Scuola del Design “Facoltà del Design”) is linked to INDACCO.

Its vocation is to guarantee all didactic activities. The brief history of the School of Design has constantly made a priority of experimental and innovative lines of development, which are an answer to the real requirements of the market and of contemporary society. Since its creation in 1999 the School of Design has represented a variety of cultures, the fusion of scientific and academic subjects taught at both the School of Architecture and the School of Engineering of the Politecnico di Milano, with professional and company sectors which are a fundamental contribution to the culture of Italian design. Over the years, a large team of entrepreneurs, experts, designers, from the domain of management, service and culture, as well as professional associations have joined the teaching staff, playing an essential role in the educational program.

The Bovisa campus in Milan offers a scientific baccalaureat (laurea) and a Masters (Laurea Magistrale) in Interior, Product, Communication and Fashion Design, Design and Engineering and Conception.
